Overview:
The City of Lynn Public Health Division seeks a capable, safety-minded individual interested in issues of transportation, accessibility, and public health. This individual will primarily be a driver for the Lynn Council on Aging Senior Center, working with driving staff to provide transportation directly to Lynn residents sixty-plus years of age. Transportation will be provided, by the Senior Center Driver, to and from the Senior Center and seniors’ homes, in addition to various outings organized by the Senior Center, such as trips to community resources/events (food pantry, GLSS, etc.), commercial hubs (Malls, Supermarkets, etc.), and social events (Restaurants, Fairs, etc.). In addition to these duties, the Senior Center Driver will also provide transportation for additional shuttle routes when available as coordinated by the Community Transportation Coordinator (medical appointments, community groups) to seniors, low-income residents, and disabled residents. The Senior Center Driver will work closely with Lynn Senior Center and City Hall Staff, including the Senior Center Lead Driver, Program Director, and Community Transportation Coordinator to make sure all transportation is coordinated effectively. This individual will be someone who can thrive in a fast-paced environment, have an excellent driving record, and use great interpersonal skills.

Duties and Qualifications:
• Ability to safely operate a fourteen-passenger van and 8-passenger minibus with accessible lift for the purpose of escorting Senior Center participants to and from the facility, outings, and community resources.
o 2 weeks of vehicle training with Senior Center staff will be provided;
• Ability to safely provide transportation or Lynn residents to-and-from different locations as organized by the Senior Center/Driving staff
• Ability to communicate clearly with Senior Center/Driving staff on various transportation duties daily
• Ability to coordinate with Senior Center/Driving staff for daily transportation tasks;
• Ability to follow a routing schedule and navigate roadways safely and efficiently;
• Making safety checks of all operating equipment; reporting any van malfunctions to the supervisor for the purpose of repair.
• Occasional lifting and/or moving associated with loading and unloading wheelchair-bound passengers;
• Keeping accurate records of passengers conveyed;
• Report accidents or incidents, of any nature, relative to vans or passengers.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
o 1-2 years of experience in transportation preferred, but not necessary
• Experience with 60+ population highly valued
• Good social, interpersonal, listening, observation, and oral communication skills.
• Patient, flexible, and dependable attitude required.
• Assist participants who use walkers, canes, etc. for mobility purposes.
• Valid Massachusetts Drivers’ License and excellent driving record, as verified through the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles
• Attending and completing, as organized with Senior Center/Driving staff, MassDOT driver trainings (Defensive Driving, Disability Awareness, Accessible Lift Use/Passenger Securement, CPR/First Aid);
• Strong familiarity with City of Lynn streets, and comfortability driving in surrounding communities including Boston.
• Experience with wheelchair accessible vehicles (including wheelchair lift) preferred.
• Prior OSHA training a plus.
