Work hours: Part-time schedule with flexible field hours as approved by the Director of Assessing for up to eight hundred and forty (840) hours in a twelve month period.

$50.00 per hour

OVERVIEW:

The Part-Time Property Data Collector shall conduct inspections of real property throughout the City of Lynn. The primary purpose of this position is to collect and verify property data through field observations, exterior measurements, photographs, and record updates to support the state mandated cyclical re-inspection program assessment and revaluation programs. The inspection of the property should be a thorough measure and listing of the exterior and a concerted effort demonstrated for interior inspections.

• Under the direction of the Director of Assessing, the successful candidate will perform fieldwork that includes measuring buildings and improvements, documenting property characteristics, and maintaining accurate property records. The Assessing Department will handle data entry into CAMA.
• Conducting inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant properties throughout the City of Lynn.
• Measuring building exteriors and structures to verify dimensions and create or update property sketches.
• Recording and verifying physical property characteristics, including building size, style, construction type, additions, and other improvements.
• Taking clear and accurate photographs of properties for assessment records.
• Preparing field notes, sketches, and documentation related to property inspections.
• Verifying existing property record information and identifying discrepancies.
• Maintaining accurate records of completed inspections and field activities.
• Interacting professionally and respectfully with property owners, tenants, and the general public.
• Performing related duties as assigned by the Director of Assessing.

REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Massachusetts driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to perform extensive fieldwork and walk throughout neighborhoods in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to accurately measure building exteriors and prepare basic sketches.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in property inspections, real estate, construction, surveying, assessing, or appraisal work.
• Familiarity with property record systems, GIS mapping, or assessment databases.
• General knowledge of building construction and property characteristics.
• Experience collecting field data and preparing measurement sketches.
• Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to walk, stand, bend, and climb exterior stairs.
• Ability to carry measuring equipment, tablets, cameras, and related field tools.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
