MassDOT Advisory - Overnight Lane Closures and Detours on Route 129 (Lynnfield Street)
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing temporary overnight lane closures on Route 129 (Lynnfield Street) between Lookout Terrace and Lebel Road. These lane closures are scheduled to occur weekly, Monday through Thursday nights, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning, beginning Monday night, August 25, and continuing through Friday morning, September 19, to allow crews to safely and effectively perform pavement milling, resurfacing and other items of work.
Lane closures will be required with varying traffic management plans. Detours may be utilized depending on the operation and specific location within the limits of work. This work is being done under a state highway access permit project.
Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. Drivers who are traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution. The schedule for this work is weather dependent and is subject to change without notice.
MassDOT Advisory - General Edwards Drawbridge Maintenance (Work Scope Reduced)
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it has reduced the scope of work for the ongoing bridge repairs on Route 1A at the General Edwards Drawbridge at the Revere/Lynn line. The change was made in an effort to minimize the weekday afternoon peak period traffic impacts associated with the fixed work zone, established for the work on August 17, that involves a continuous closure of the left travel lane on Route 1A northbound. The reduced scope of work eliminates the replacement of the center median barrier and instead focuses solely on the necessary structural repairs to a targeted area on the underside of the bridge.
Starting the week of August 25, MassDOT’s contractor will also increase its work force to add a second shift. Since the structural work is located in the area beneath the Route 1A northbound left lane, it will be necessary to maintain the 24/7 closure until that work is complete; however, the reduction in the scope of work and the provision of additional resources is expected to significantly reduce the overall schedule. Variable message signs are being placed at Mahoney (Bell) Circle and Butler Circle (near Wonderland) to alert drivers of the work so they can consider alternative routes. MassDOT also worked with mapping companies to update their sites and applications to reflect the continuous lane closure to better route traffic through and around the work zone.
Traffic will be affected as follows:
- Route 1A northbound is reduced from two lanes to one lane and will remain in that condition on a continual 24/7 basis, beginning in the area near the Lynnway on-ramp in Revere, across the General Edwards Drawbridge, and ending in the area near Hanson Street in Lynn until the reduced scope of repair work is fully complete.
- Route 1A southbound will be temporarily reduced from two lanes to one lane across the bridge as needed during overnight hours on Sunday through Thursday evenings from 8:30pm each evening to 5:00am the following morning.
August 15th, 2025 MWRA Advisory - Nightwork at the Lynnway & Hanson Street Intersection
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority’s (MWRA) contractor, Bond Civil & Utility Construction of Medford, started nightwork at the Lynnway and Hanson Street intersection this week to replace a water service pipeline.
Work will continue in this area until approximately mid-October 2025 from 8:00PM to 5:00AM.
While work is underway, traffic lane restrictions and shifts will be in place; however, vehicles will continue to be able to travel through the area. Additionally, proper signage and police details will be on site to assist motorists.
Overnight Detours on Broadway Between Wyoma Square & Mayfair Street
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing temporary overnight detours on Broadway between Wyoma Square and Mayfair Street in Lynn. The detours will be in effect Sunday through Thursday nights, from 8:00pm-5:00am the following morning, starting July 27 through September 5.
These overnight detours are necessary to allow crews to safely and efficiently perform full-depth roadway reconstruction and paving. The work is part of a $4.9 million roadway reconstruction project on Broadway in Lynn.
Appropriate signage and law enforcement details will be in place to guide drivers through the work area during work operations.
Drivers traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution. All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.

MassDOT Construction - Extended Closure of Navigational Channel
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing the United States Coast Guard (USCG) granted an extension of the temporary channel closure along the Saugus River where marine vessels will not have full access to travel under the Route 107 bridge to the Lynn or Saugus harbors. The channel closure, which went into effect on Tuesday, February 6, will remain in place as a partial closure through Wednesday, May 15 and is necessary to allow crews to safely and effectively install the new bascule bridge across the navigational channel.
While the work proceeds, the bascule span of the new bridge will be in the closed position. The clearance beneath the new span is approximately 16 feet above mean low water. Beginning on May 1, vessels able to safely navigate beneath the new bridge span without an opening will be free to do so upon communication with support vessels and the bridge tender. Mariners must request an opening of the temporary bridge from the bridge operator if needed for safe passage.
The channel closure will have no impact on pedestrian or vehicular travel along Route 107.
This work is part of a $99.3 million drawbridge replacement project. The project is currently expected to be completed in March 2026.
Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution. Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency.
