Who Can Vote, Voter Registration Information and State Voting Resources

Who can register to vote? Only a person who is:

  • A US citizen
  • A resident of Massachusetts, residing in Lynn
  • 18 years old on or before election day (See the registration deadlines below).
    Please note: All requirements above must be met in order to register.
  • How to I register to vote online? In order to register to vote online, you must have a signature on file with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

    If you currently have a Massachusetts driver's license or state ID card, you may use the online voter registration application to register, update your address, or change your party affiliation.

    Voter registration forms submitted online must be submitted by midnight on the date of the voter registration deadline. Visit our Online Voting tab on this page.

    How to I register to vote in person? If you would like to register in-person, you may do so at the Lynn Election Office Room 203, Lynn City Hall, as well as at the Elections Division of the Secretary of the Commonwealth's office.

    If registering in person, you must register before the voter registration deadline. The City Clerk's Office holds a voter registration event on the deadline (10 days before every election) SATURDAY from 9 AM to 5 PM in order to facilitate voter registration. These voter registration events are held in the Election Office Room 203

    How do I register to vote by mail? If you prefer to register by mail, please obtain and complete a mail-in registration form. To obtain a mail-in registration form please call our Election office at 781-586-6803 or you can download the National Voter Registration form.

    You should receive a confirmation notice in 2 to 3 weeks. If you do not receive a confirmation notice, or wish to confirm your voter registration status, please contact the Election Office at (781) 586-6803 to verify your voting status.

    When registering by mail, your voter registration form must be postmarked by the voter registration deadline for you to be eligible.
