Duties and Qualifications

Overview

The Information Technology Department seeks a Network Support Technician to assist in the
growth of our IT infrastructure and coordinate IT improvements throughout all city
departments including administrative offices, Police, Fire, and Public Works departments,
and the Public Library. The Network Support Technician will be a diligent self-starter
who can immediately assist the senior leadership of the IT department, advancing the City’s
technology goals.

Duties & Qualifications    

  • Responsibility for LAN equipment to include operation, initial diagnosis, trouble shooting and service response for hardware to include communications, LAN network server, workstation configurations, printers, UPS, tape backups, scanners, Network hubs and all other LAN peripheral hardware.
  • Provide initial troubleshooting and diagnostic solutions for PC hardware and peripherals.
  • Set up hardware configurations to include hubs, server, workstations, and hardware peripherals and upgrades.  Setup of management software (i.e., Windows OS).
  • Configure printers, map and share resources (i.e., Windows OS).
  • Respond to troubleshooting requests and upgrades as scheduled by the Network Support Specialist.
  • Provide repair status data as needed to the Network Support Specialist with hardware solution recommendations or comments.
  • Provide preventive maintenance for all hardware and peripherals.  Assist in developing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual maintenance schedules.
  • Perform upgrade and installation procedures to include site-specific modifications for Windows or other LAN network hardware and software management systems.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Network Support Specialist in terms of present and future LAN / WAN upgrade design plans and installation expansion.
  • Knowledge/skills: system architecture, OS management, virtualization software, networking, Cyber Penetration testing, IOT/network security, identity, and access management.
  • Technical Degree or equivalent and experience REQUIRED in LAN Networking.  Documented course of study towards Certification as a MCSE.
  • Two years minimum experience required in the area of computer hardware installation and network management systems, preferably in Windows environments.
  • Experience in Network hardware management configuration setup, Windows installation and setup.
  • Bilingual/bicultural applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • City residency required within six months of hire.
